September 5, 2017 (San Diego’s East County) -- This week’s Destination East County includes a concert by the Kelly Rae Band in downtown El Cajon, the Sycuan Pow-wow, the first-ever Ramona Grape Stomp, an art show and reception with famed artist Jack Jordan, and a Twilight Tasting at Mission Trails.

Plus, we’ll have a preview of coming attractions including the Alley Cat Art Walk, Julian Music Festival, a Latino Film Festival at Grossmont College, Lakeside River Park’s Once in a Blue Moon, the Lemon Grove Lion’s Club Salsa Fiesta, an International Day of Peace in La Mesa, Kidz Danz Kompany’s new show “Bamboozled,” Oktoberfests in La Mesa and El Cajon, the Laguna Mountain Rendezvous, Kids Care Fest in Lakeside and the Borrego Days desert festival.

SUCCESS! EAST COUNTY DINING CLUB ‘S PREMIERE PARTY DRAWS A CULINARY CROWD

September 1, 2017 (La Mesa) – Thanks to all who turned out to help make the launch of our East County Dining Club a big success! 

Over 75 people attend our premiere party  at Fabrison’s Country French Restaurant in  Jamul, where guests feasted on all-you-can-eat crepes and  savored wines from the award-winning Deerhorn Valley Vineyard.

If you haven’t yet joined our dining club (just $10 a year!) we strongly recommend doing so now since we expect future events to sell out.

East County Dining Club members  will receive early invitations and  first options to reserve space at all of our future special culinary events, two free drawing tickets at their next event, and a free “Best of East County” cookbook we are compiling with recipes from top restaurants, wineries, farms and more in our region. LIVING HISTORY PAGEANT ON MOUNT LAGUNA SEPT. 2-3

August 31, 2017 (Mount Laguna) – The Laguna Mountain Volunteer Association invites you to take a walk back in history to meet and talk with Mount Laguna’s pioneers and residents from the 1880s.  The Living History Pageant on Mount Laguna, a free and family friendly event, will be held this Saturday and Sunday, September 2 and 3. The walks are at 9:30 a.m.,  11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. both days.

August 30, 2017 (Warner Springs) – Wings of Rescue is working to fly out pets stranded or lost from areas flooded by Hurricane Harvey.  On Monday from 12 noon to 4 p.m., Hawk Watch Winery in Warner Springs is hosted a benefit for Wings of Rescue’s hurricane relief efforts.

August 29, 2017 (Lakeside) -- The Grossmont Healthcare District presents its Kids Care Fest Saturday, October 14 from 9 a.m.to 1 p.m. at the Lakeside Rodeo Grounds, 12584 Mapleview Street in Lakeside.  This event will offer FREE checkups and health information as well as safety demonstrations and fun activities for the whole family.  This year there will be dental and vision screenings and flu shots (while supplies last),   The District hasn’t forgotten the adults--they can have their cholesterol and blood pressure checked.  To alleviate the sting of the flu shots,  the kids can ride ponies, climb a wall or participate in other fun activities.  For more details and to see a video of last year's event, go to kidscarefest.org.  You can also get more information by calling 619-825-5050.

Members of the Kiwanis Clubs of Lake Murray, La Mesa and Fletcher Hills are combining their efforts to raise funds for their youth scholarships and community sponsorships by presenting “Twilight Tasting at the Trails” from 6 pm to 9 pm on Saturday, September 9.

August 28, 2017 (Lemon Grove) - The Lemon Grove Lions Club is hosting a Salsa y Salsa Fiesta to raise money to buy new bleachers for Lemon Grove Little League.

Lemon Grove Mayor Pro-Tem Jennifer Mendoza cited safety concerns with the current bleachers . “Lemon Grove is one of the poorest communities in San Diego,” she said. “Our Little League has been here for some fifty years and is showing its age, so our Lions Club adopted it as our project.”

HOT TIMES AT THE RAMONA COUNTRY FAIR CONTINUE THROUGH SUNDAY

August 25, 2017 (Ramona) – Midway rides, crafts, critters, fair foods from funnel cakes to bacon-wrapped hotdogs,  kids activities and more are all part of the fun at the Ramona Country Fair, which continues tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.  From 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday you can also enjoy the Ramona Bluegrass Festivals on the Main Stage, plus a Gymkhana equestrian show in the arena from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  

We visited  today, arriving to the aroma of slow-cooked, barbecued meats and the sights of butter slathered corn on the cob.

The Menghini Winery is hosting the 21st Julian Grape Stomp Festa on September 2 from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m.  The festivities are located at 1150 Julian Orchards Drive outside of Julian.  This unique event invites you to immerse yourself in the old-world Italian experience, tasting wines from ten local wineries, humming to Italian tunes by Roman Holiday, trying your hand at bocce ball, eating and shopping.  This year a falconry demonstration has been added to the list of attractions, where you can watch these regal birds “volare.”

The menu features their famous hand-wrapped deep pit barbecue beef, mountain ranch beans, handcrafted slaw and western rolls.  It doesn't stop there-- they also offer home made apple pie, "drinks galore" and more.

July 22, 2017 (Lakeside) – Lakeside’s River Park Conservancy will present its 11th annual Once in a Blue Moon Gala and Auction at the River Valley Equestrian Center on September 16.

You’re invited to help honor partners in conservation and raise funds for science programs for kids. This year’s event includes an exhibition polo match starting at 5 p.m., with the night concluding at 8 p.m.

July 19, 2017 (San Diego’s East County) -- This week’s Destination East County includes the Jungle Book Movie at La Mesita Park,  a Museum Roadshow at Cuyamaca College,  a family hike and falconry presentation at Santa Ysabel Preserve, plus community concerts in La Mesa, Lemon Grove, El Cajon and Santee.

Plus, we’ll have a preview of coming attractions including Mariah Carey and Lionel Ritchie in concert at San Diego State, a murder mystery dinner theatre in Julian, Pine Valley Days, the Pomerado Jazz Quintet at Mission Trails, a Sip of Julian, the HeART of Mt. Helix, the Ramona Country Fair,  and a Laurel and Hardy film presentation in Spring Valley.
