December 15, 2011 (El Cajon) – For an artsy twist on the holiday season, stop by the Holiday Open House Extravaganza located at the Silver Creek Fine Art Gallery and Custom Framing, 120 East Main Street in El Cajon on December 16 from 5 – 8 p.m. Meet featured artists Rick Knight, glass artist, and Denise Rich, cow artist.
A native of San Diego, Rich began painting in oil over 20 years ago. For her, it was not a choice. “I don't think an artist is created from desire, but an artist naturally has the desire to create. From there it's what we do with that desire to create that makes our personal statement in the art world.”
Her personal artistic statement has been made with contemporary paintings of cows and cattle. In 2006, she received a commission for the
California Milk Advisory Board to paint their famous Happy Cows of the Real California Milk campaign. This led to becoming The Official Happy Cow Artist, (as seen on their website www.realcaliforniamilk.com).
Rich takes her own photographs as reference for her paintings, and draws from the field experience while referencing the photo at the easel.
Why cows? - “I was unexpectedly drawn to cows when I first viewed them as a subject for a painting. It only took one visit with the local Holstein herd to realize there was something special, they were not just a 'herd' of cattle, they were individuals with unique and completely charming personalities.” She also does commissions of people, pets etc., Denise's website is www.deniserichart.com.
Rick Knight states, "I am fascinated by the possibilities of using glass as a medium. My work is kiln-formed, also known as fused glass. I utilize sheet glass, granulated glass, multiple kiln firings at controlled temperatures and specialized diamond cutting, grinding and polishing equipment to develop unique designs, colors, textures and shapes.
